Awakening the erotic through dance & breath

Reflections on day 77/90 days of Pleasure

What is the erotic? Audre Lorde discusses the erotic in detail in her essay The Uses of the Erotic The Erotic as Power

“The very word erotic comes from the Greek word eros, the personification of love in all its aspects-born of Chaos, and personifying creative power and harmony. When I speak of the erotic, then, I speak of it as an assertion of the lifeforce of women; of that creative energy empowered, the knowledge and use of which we are now reclaiming in our language, our history, our dancing, our loving, our work, our lives.“

I’ve been thinking a lot about erotic sovereignty and what that looks like to me. To be an erotic creature is one that is attuned to their sensuality, their pleasure, and their life force. The origin of the root word Eros means sensual or passionate love. To me that means feeling love in my whole body freely without any confines.

I had an aha moment yesterday when I was deep in my morning pleasure practice. I set out to do this 90 days of pleasure challenge to research and put into practice an idea I had for a program. Now that I am almost complete with my 90 days something else is emerging.

In these past 77 days I have cultivated a body/movement practice that both is grounding and awakens my erotic being. I have woven together intentional breath and sound with so many layers of dance/somatics that has become a sensual movement practice that is my own.

I feel ready to bring my intuitive erotic movement practice to Pleasure Playground, a Tantra trance dance to awaken the body. This is what my deeply rooted self trust in my body is for.

I trust that my body knows what to do. I trust that 40 years of studying dance has given me the tools I need. I trust that the breath and sound will flow naturally with the movement. I trust that the right people will be in the room to go on this journey with me. I trust that I have the wisdom to awaken the erotic in all who attend Pleasure Playground.
