Sacred Sex

Reflections on day 55/90 days of Pleasure

In just a couple of weeks I will be training with Barbara Carrellas, author of Urban Tantra. What drew me to Barbara was how she frames Tantra as sacred sex, experiencing joy in our bodies as human in a deeply reverent and spiritual way. I gravitated toward how her practices go outside of the heteronormative & gender binary troupes that I’ve experienced in so many other Tantra/body/movement practices.

I love how when using this lens of bringing the work to the simplest elements of connecting to energy in the body and how we can be in relationship to that energy is so so important and powerful and goes beyond body parts (of course they are considered/included but it’s not necessary).

Parts get to be included if/when we want them to be. When I say parts I mean genitals. Why I think this is important to me at this stage of my work is that I am deeply committed to agency, choice, and consent, acknowledging the trauma that genitals hold. I come to this work with the understanding/belief that we are all carrying trauma.

I think it’s important to honor the whole body and build that trust within ourselves before we even entertain the idea of involving genitals. And we don’t need to engage them to orgasm or feel joy in our bodies. When/if we decide that we want to, the agency of that choice, the sacredness of the trust and reverence can open up a portal to pleasure way beyond our wildest imaginations.
